Salam sejahtera,
Let me share my experience when opening a new account at Maybank bank. I was informed by the officer that they have tighten the procedure of opening an account, among others :
- customers are restricted to have 1 savings account only.
- customers are restricted to open an account at the branch nearest to the customer’s residential area. They need electricity bills or Syabas bills for verification.
I’ve made an application via maybank2u and part of the registration process requires me to enter my home address and I’ve have selected a branch other than Semenyih branch. My application was approved in principle. That’s great! After a few days, I went to the branch to finalise my application and I was told my application was rejected due to :
- location of the selected branch was far away from my residential area.
- and/or I’ve an existing savings account with them.
Not satisfied with the explanation, I’ve made a request to meet the branch manager and explained to the manager about my problem and the reason why I choose his branch and why I need another account. Thank you! He approves my application.
So looking at the above scenario, I’d say the procedure should be read like this :
- customers are encouraged to have 1 savings account.
- customers are encouraged to open an account at the branch nearest to the customer’s residential area
In this world, sometimes meeting the right person may give the right answer.
